Suspect arrested, charged with murder in death of Brookstone Blvd man in Columbus

A suspect has been arrested and charged with murder after Monday’s shooting death of a man on Brookstone Boulevard, the Columbus Police Department announced Wednesday.

Police said Antanavious Butler, 26, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the death of 65-year-old Norman Lane.

Lane was pronounced dead at 9:09 p.m. Monday after a possible home invasion, said Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan

Police responded around 8:16 p.m. Monday to a home in the 6200 block of Brookstone Boulevard to a possible burglary, according to a CPD news release.

The news release says officers saw signs of forced entry and found a dead man, later identified as Lane, with gunshot wounds in the home.

Bryan said Lane was shot an undetermined amount of times with what appeared to be a shotgun.

Lane was found with a handgun next to him, according to Bryan.

Police said Butler is charged with murder, home invasion and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Butler is scheduled to appear at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Recorder’s Court, according to police.
