Murder trial starts for suspect in Columbus State grad’s death in Phenix City
The trial of a suspect in the 2023 death of a Columbus State University graduate in Phenix City began Monday, according to Russell County District Attorney Rick Chancey.
Ryan Boles, 23, of Eatonton, Georgia, was found dead in the rear parking lot of the Synovus Bank branch at 1000 13th St. in Phenix City in December 2023.
Jadarius Snipes, 18, is on trial and faces charges of first-degree robbery and murder, Chancey told the Ledger-Enquirer.
Boles had earned a bachelor’s degree in communication with a concentration in film production. His accomplishments included:
- Interned on “Cash Out,” the John Travolta movie filmed in Columbus.
- Involved in CSU’s “The Society” film club and the “For The Record” video gaming club.
- Camera operator in CSU’s WCUG-Athletics live-streaming team.
CSU’s communication department posted this statement on Boles’ death to its Facebook page at the time:
“We are heartbroken to share the news that Ryan Boles has passed away. Ryan is a recent communication graduate and was an exemplary student and filmmaker who was adored by faculty, staff, and his classmates. He was the most friendly presence in the department and spread his positivity and kindness everywhere he went. We are so deeply saddened by this news. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
Two teenage suspects were arrested in connection with Boles’ death.
Phenix City Police Department Capt. Darrell Lassiter said in December 2023 another person was robbed in the middle of 10th Avenue after leaving the bank seven minutes before Boles’ shooting. Investigators believe the suspects were watching the bank to find others to rob.
