Columbus police ask public’s help to find murder suspect after drive-by shooting

A man is dead following a drive-by shooting at a Columbus apartment complex Saturday morning, according to officials.

The Columbus Police Department said they responded at 3:32 a.m. Saturday to Azalea Ridge Apartments in the 1400 block of Boxwood Boulevard.

Police said responding officers found Demetrius Wilkerson, 30, suffering from a gunshot wound.

EMS arrived at the scene but were unable to resuscitate Wilkerson, police said.

Wilkerson was pronounced dead at 4:10 a.m., according to police.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said Wilkerson was a passenger in a car that was shot in the parking lot.

Wilkerson suffered multiple gunshot wounds in a drive-by shooting, according to Bryan.

Police said probable cause was established to issue arrest warrants for 32-year-old Donald Fair.

Fair is wanted on criminal charges of murder, two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about Fair’s whereabouts to contact Sgt. Robert Nicholas at 706-225-4363 or RobertNicholas@columbusga.org.
