Suspect charged with murder in shooting death at Columbus convenience store

A man has been arrested and charged with murder and other criminal charges in connection with the death of a man in 2021 at a Columbus convenience store, the Columbus Police Department announced Monday.

Jy’Keiveous Jiles, 21, was arrested Sunday in connection with the fatal shooting of 39-year-old Walter Christopher, CPD said.

Police responded on Dec. 7, 2021, to the MK Mart in the 1100 block of Farr Road, where they found Christopher suffering from gunshot wounds, according to the news release. Police said Christopher was taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where he died.

Police said Jiles is charged with:

  • Murder
  • Criminal attempt hijacking motor vehicle
  • Theft by receiving (motor vehicle).

Police said Jiles is scheduled to appear in Columbus Recorder’s Court at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
