One dead after Phenix City homicide day before Thanksgiving, coroner says

One man is dead after a homicide Wednesday in Phenix City, Alabama, according to Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr.

Sumbry identified the victim as Joseph Tassoni, 42. Tassoni was pronounced dead at the scene of an apparent shooting on Cricket Drive at 4:37 p.m. Wednesday, according to Sumbry.

Sumbry said Tassoni suffered possible gunshot wounds. His body will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science in Montgomery for an autopsy, according to Sumbry.

Sumbry said the death is under investigation by the Phenix City Police Department and the Russell County Coroner’s Office.
