A man was arrested after arriving at a Columbus hospital with gunshot wounds after a shooting that occurred Wednesday in Phenix City, the Phenix City Police Department announced Thursday.

PCPD said officers responded around 8:25 p.m. Wednesday to the 1300 block of 28th Avenue, where a person was suffering from a gunshot wound. Responding officers found a 24-year-old victim who had been shot in the leg, according to the news release.

The news release says the victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said a suspect was developed after Jaquan Jones, 26, of Phenix City, arrived at a Columbus hospital with a gunshot wound. After being treated and released, Jones was taken into custody and transported to the Muscogee County Jail on attempted murder warrants related to a separate shooting, according to the news release.

“Additional attempted murder warrants will be issued for Jones in connection with last night’s incident,” the news release says.

PCPD said the case still is under investigation and asks anyone with information about the case to call Investigator Doleman at 334-448-2796.
