The Columbus Police Department is asking the public to help identify skeletal remains found eight years ago.

Police said they responded around 10:51 a.m. on Nov. 29, 2018, to the 3100 block of Plateau Drive after a citizen found skeletal remains in a wooded area.

The remains were sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner’s Office for further investigation, and the GBI completed a forensic sketch, according to police.

Police said the medical examiner’s office determined the victim was a Black or Hispanic man between 27 and 66 years old at the time of his death.

“Findings indicate the victim suffered at least one gunshot wound to the head,” the news release says. “The estimated time of death is between 2013 and 2018.”

Police said the case is open and being investigated by CPD’s Violent Crimes Unit. Police request anyone with information about the victim’s identity or circumstances surrounding his death to contact Cpl. Emily Stice at 706-225-4366 or stice.emily@columbusga.org.
