4 east Alabama residents sentenced in Harris County gun shop theft

Four east Alabama residents, including one from Phenix City, have been sentenced after being found guilty of smashing a truck into a Harris County gun shop, stealing 31 firearms and attempting to sell them, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Wednesday.

The defendants and their sentences are:

  • Jareco Green, 27, of Eufala was sentenced to serve 120 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, after he pleaded guilty to one count of theft of firearms from a federal firearms licensee July 23.
  • Darious McCall, 22, of Eufala was sentenced to serve 60 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, after he pleaded guilty to one count of theft of firearms from a federal firearms licensee Oct. 27.
  • Zyrion Fryer, 23, of Eufala was sentenced to serve 37 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, after he pleaded guilty to one count of theft of firearms from a federal firearms licensee July 23.
  • Shamonica Davis, 25, of Phenix City was sentenced to serve five years of probation after she pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a stolen firearm Nov. 18.

The federal system doesn’t have parole.

The DOJ said court documents and statements show a stolen truck smashed through the front door of Allen’s Armory, a federal firearms licensee in Harris County, on Sept. 16, 2022, when the co-defendants (all wearing ski masks) emerged from the truck and stole 31 pistols and rifles from the store. The incident was caught on camera, according to the news release.

The stolen truck was located in Troy, Alabama, where investigators found a black sweatshirt, two camouflage gloves, a pack of cigarettes, a black ski mask and a red Apple iPhone directly behind the truck, according to the DOJ.

“Law enforcement discovered the defendants were selling the guns online, with Davis referring to them as ‘shoes’ and sharing photos of the stolen firearms when asked for images of the ‘shoes,’” the news release says.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Eufaula Police Department and the Troy Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tamara Jarrett is prosecuting the case, presided over by U.S. District Judge Clay Land.
