Columbus police make arrest and murder charge in Victory Drive shooting death

One person has been arrested in connection with Thursday’s shooting death of a man on Victory Drive in Columbus, the Columbus Police Department announced Friday.

Police said Dwayne Quarles, 50, was arrested and charged with murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Quarles was arrested in connection with the death of 36-year-old Calvin Mitchell, according to police.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said Mitchell died at 12:26 a.m. Friday after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

CPD public information officer Brittany Santiago told the Ledger-Enquirer officers responded to the call in the 3400 block of Victory Drive around 11:50 p.m. Thursday.
