Coroner releases name of victim. Columbus police investigate deadly shooting

The Columbus Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is investigating Monday morning after a deadly shooting, according to a post on the department’s X page.

The post says officers are in the area of 31st Avenue and Delta Street after one person was found dead. CPD public information officer Brittany Santiago said police received the call at 5:24 a.m.

The victim is 20-year-old Jayveon Bell who suffered a gunshot wound in his car, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan. Bell was pronounced dead at 6:32 a.m., Bryan said.

Bryan said Bell’s body will be sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for an autopsy.
