Arrest made in pregnant woman's shooting

A man accused of shooting a pregnant woman at Brighton Park Apartments in Columbus has been arrested in Atlanta, police said Friday.

Blake Houze, 40, was booked into the Muscogee County Jail after he was arrested by the fugitive squad. He is held without bond on one count each of aggravated assault, theft by taking motor vehicle and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime.

Houze's arrest stems from the July 5 shooting at 6254 Warm Springs Road. A 34-year-old pregnant woman was treated at Midtown Medical Center for gunshot wounds to the right eye, upper lip and left shoulder.

Although the woman lost an eye in the shooting, she and her child are expected to recover.

Police were on the lookout for a black Nissan Maxima before Houze was found. He also is known as David Steinberg.

The investigation led local authorities to DeKalb County, where the suspect has lived.
