Burglary victim hopes rings are returned
He has not lost hope that he will get his rings back.
In late June, the home of a 64-year-old Columbus businessman was robbed. Fourteen gold University of Notre Dame class rings were among the items stolen. Also taken were four televisions, an antique shotgun, a watch, a laptop and a diamond bracelet.
While purchased as an investment, the Notre Dame graduate said there is a sentimental value to the rings.
He kept the rings, one as old as 1954, displayed on a shelf in an office full of Notre Dame memorabilia.
"They actually took 15 rings but dropped one on the front lawn," he said.
The house in the Northgate Subdivision was burglarized in the early afternoon while his wife was at work and he was at a meeting.
"I have lived in the same house for 30 years," the victim said. "I have traveled all over and never had anything taken, not even a wrench."
The thieves took a door off the hinges to gain entry. The businessman had no alarm system but he has one now.
He said he's thankful neither of his two dogs was harmed.
The man said pawn shops in the Southeast were alerted about the rings as was eBay. He took out an advertisement in the newspaper. So far, he has no leads.
"The rings are big and heavy," he said.
Anyone with information could contact Columbus police at 706-326-9060.
