Columbus man jailed after allegedly molesting 8-year-old girl
Editor’s note: The State of Georgia’s case against David Kimbrel was abandoned on January 15, 2019, according to Muscogee County court records. The state tried Kimbrel and the result was a hung jury. The state decided against a retrial after speaking with jurors and the victim.
A 31-year-old Columbus man was arrested Thursday on a felony warrant after allegedly molesting an 8-year-old girl in his Woodlawn Avenue home.
David Shane Kimbrel, the suspected attacker, surrendered to authorities 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Columbus Public Saftey Center on 10th Avenue. He was charged with child molestation and placed in Muscogee County Jail.
Kimbrel is scheduled to appear in Recorder’s Court 2 p.m. Saturday. Police said he will be represented by defense attorney Richard Hagler.
