A 29-year-old man was placed behind bars Saturday after allegedly abusing a girl under the age of 18, Columbus Police said.

Gregory Floyd Anderson of Columbus was arrested in the Ace Bonding Company's parking lot 10:40 p.m. Saturday and charged with second-degree cruelty to children in connection with the incident. He is currently in the Muscogee County Jail under a $10,000 bond.

Authorities said Anderson was apprehended on an outstanding felony warrant alleging that he, with criminal negligence, caused a girl an excessive amount of physical or mental pain.

An arrest report indicates that it wasn't family violence but doesn't disclose any further information concerning the incident.

Anderson's preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday in Recorder's Court.
