Columbus man charged in fatal home invasion

The Columbus man wounded when an elderly Cusseta, Ala., homeowner fired at alleged home invaders has been charged with capital murder.

Investigators arrested 20-year-old Robert Jamal Wiggins when he was released Wednesday from the East Alabama Medical Center.

Authorities said 85-year-old Curtis Bennie Rudd shot Wiggins as three men forced their way into Rudd's home Jan. 19 on Lee Road 177. Rudd died after the intruders shot him multiple times, according to the Lee County sheriff.

Wiggins and co-defendants Khaleef Jevante Marshall and Davonte Travon Mike, both also 20, are being held without bond in the Lee County Detention Center.
