The Georgia Bureau of Investigations charged a 30-year-old Marion County mother with murder and child cruelty Tuesday following the death of her 3-month-old daughter.
The GBI said it's still investigating the events that led to Brylynn Faith Windon receiving a fatal head injury Jan. 26 at a 7 Date Circle home in Mauka, Ga., where she lived with her mother, Erica Danielle Windon, and 2-year-old brother.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to the residence around 5:30 p.m. after learning that the child had been taken to Columbus Midtown Medical Center for treatment.
Terry Howard, GBI's assistant special agent in charge, said state agents immediately went to the hospital, where the child was pronounced dead that evening of blunt-force trauma.
Further investigation led detectives to believe that Erica left her two children in the care of someone else's 6-year-old girl.
The mother was arrested at an undisclosed Columbus location around 6 p.m. Tuesday on felony warrants charging her with murder and second-degree cruelty to children.
She was booked into Muscogee County Jail but later transferred to the Marion County Jail.
