Update: Shooting victim identified in Opelika, Ala.

A man who was shot and killed Thursday during gunfire on Edmon Avenue  has been identified as Jalen Cavon Johnson of Opelika, authorities said.

  Johnson, 19, was  pronounced dead of apparent  multiple gunshots at the scene at 3:02 p.m., Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said in a release.

  A man who ended up at the emergency room of East Alabama Medical Center  about the same time +was taken to surgery.

  Police believe the shootings are related as the investigation continues.

  Police Capt. Shane Healey said there are no other details available on the shootings. "Our investigators are working tirelessly to try to determine exactly what occurred and it would be premature to release any information at this time," he said in a release.

Multiple gunshots left a 19-year-old man dead and a second in the hospital today after gunfire erupted in the 600 block of Edmon Avenue, Opelika, Ala., police said .

The victim was pronounced dead at 3:02 p.m. CST, about 14 minutes after police were called to the area to check on gunshots. His name will be withheld until his relatives are notified, Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said.

Minutes after the teen was found with gunshots, a 24-year-old man was dropped off with multiple gunshots at the East Alabama Medical Center's emergency room. He was in surgery and his condition was unavailable.

Police believe both shootings are related.

The 19-year-old victim will be transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy  in Montgomery.
