Police have arrested a man accused of creating a Facebook account representing himself as police chief of the Columbus Police Department.

Brian Reed, 23, was taken into custody at 9 a.m. Wednesday at an 11th Avenue apartment. He was charged with one count each of identity fraud and impersonating an officer. He is held without bond in the Muscogee County Jail for a 9 a.m. Friday hearing  in Recorder’s Court.

In a report, police said a probe was launched Dec. 9 by the Computer Crime Unit into fraudulent activity on social media.

Police said Reed created a Facebook account and represented himself as Columbus Police Chief Ricky Boren. The chief’s name was used in various messages in the account.
