A Columbus man, who was  arrested and charged with aggravated assault following a shooting Saturday, will now be charged with murder according to Columbus police.

Arrested was 42-year-old Reginald Glenn.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said 33-year-old Marcus Barron of Columbus was pronounced dead at 5:12 a.m. Sunday at Midtown Medical Center.

Barron had been shot in the chest.

His body will be taken to Atlanta for an autopsy.

According to a police report,  at 6:15 p.m. there was an dispute between two neighbors at 3909 Baker Plaza Drive Apartments which grew into a physical altercation.  When officers arrived, Barron was found shot.

He was transported to the hospital.

"He was rushed into surgery," said Lt. Consuelo Askew who was among officers working at the crime scene Sunday afternoon.

Askew said Barron was shot at the top of a stairwell. Barron was standing in the doorway of his apartment.

She said police were told the two men have been friends since they were children.

"We were told they used to hang out together," she said.

Glenn was also charged with possession of marijuana, less than one ounce.

Glenn will appear in Columbus Recorder's Court at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
