Driver charged with reckless murder in Elmore County crash
The driver involved in a single-vehicle Elmore County crash on Sept. 26 that killed three passengers and injured one has been charged with three counts of reckless murder, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency announced this afternoon in a press release.
Authorities said Corey Wilson was charged with the deaths of Aeriel Bernstein, 20; Savannah Huggins, 21; and Devon Gibbons, 18. He is currently being held in the Elmore County Jail under bonds totaling $45,000.
According to the press release, Wilson was driving the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe Wilson when it struck a tree and caught fire on Coosada Parkway just over a mile from Millbrook.
Three of the passengers, who weren’t wearing seatbelts, were pronounced dead on the scene following the 1:30 a.m. wreck. Wilson and the fourth passenger were transported to a local hospital with injures.
The preliminary investigation indicated that narcotics may have been a contributing factor.
