Shots fired at Burnside Drive home with family of six

Columbus Police said they found 19 shell casings at the scene of an overnight incident in which shots were fired at a Burnside Drive occupied by a family of six.

Authorities said they were called to the 2200 block at 12:20 a.m. Friday and found the victims, which included two children, unharmed.

Officers spoke with an 82-year-old resident on the scene who stated that he was in the bed when he heard several gunshots at 12:15 a.m. Friday. He walked to the living room and saw several bullet holes in his “living room, kitchen and the north side bedroom area,” according to a police report.

The man noted that his family was also in the house at the time of the shooting, including a 3-month-old girl, a 4-year-old boy and three adults between the ages of 19 and 51.

The adults said they aren’t sure why their home was targeted, according to police.

Officers have yet to identify any suspects but seized 19 shell casings from the scene, including nine from a 9mm weapon and 10 from a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson gun.

The shooting is still under investigation.
