Brother, sister wounded in Opelika shooting on Stowe Avenue

A brother and sister are expected to recover after being wounded Sunday night in an Opelika shooting in the 100 block of Stowe Avenue, according to Opelika Police.

Investigators said they have developed a person of interest and will continue to follow up on all leads. That individual’s name hasn’t been released.

Authorities said they responded to the scene around 10 p.m. Sunday after it was reported that “several shots were fired.” Officials were on the scene investigating when a 29-year-old woman and 26-year-old man who were identified as siblings arrived at the East Alabama Medical Center with gunshot wounds.

Opelika Police Capt. Shane Healey said the sister was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit, and the brother was taken to surgery. Both are expected to recover, he added.
