Man charged with attempted murder, rape in Phenix City burglary

A 19-year-old man arrested in connection with the early Monday burglary near Fontaine Road that left a woman with a serious head injury, according to the Phenix City Police Department.

Gregory Calvin Durham Jr. faces attempted murder, rape, first-degree burglary and robbery charges stemming from the incident. He was transported to the Russell County Jail on Tuesday, officials said.

Columbus Police said they responded around 5:15 a.m. to a residential alarm at a home near Fontaine Road and found the woman suffering from a head injury on the scene. She was rushed to Columbus Midtown Medical Center, where she was listed in stable but critical condition.

Police said the victim’s vehicle was stolen from the residence but later recovered in Phenix City.
