Russell County sheriff warns public about phone scam

Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor took to Facebook to warn the public about an ongoing phone scam.

Taylor said an unidentified person has been calling people falsely claiming to be a representative of the Russell County Jail. The caller then asks potential victims to place money on an inmate’s books or bond them out of jail, he added.

“The Russell County Jail will not ask for money over the phone,” Taylor reminded the public.

Those who have been targeted in the phone scam are encouraged to the Russell County Sheriff’s Office at 334-298-6535.
