Bullets strike occupied Wellborn Drive home

A 30-year-old man was in his Wellborn Drive home with two children when bullets struck his residence Tuesday night, according to a Columbus police report.

Authorities said they were called to the victim’s residence in the 4800 block shortly after the shots rang out between 9 and 9:20 p.m. There were no reported injuries.

The resident said he was playing video games with his girlfriend’s 10-year-old son in the bedroom when he heard the gunshots being fired from the outside of his house. A 12-year-old girl was also in the home at the time, he added.

They all took cover until the shooting stopped.

Officials said they found multiple bullet holes in the home and one “ballistic round” in the bathroom. They also seized 14 shell casings located in front of the house, including four belonging to a .45 caliber weapon and 12 from an automatic 10 mm gun.

While none of the residents saw any possible suspects, a man and woman who lived nearby reported seeing a white Ford Crown Victoria drive toward Welborn Drive.

The woman told authorities she heard 10 to 12 gunshots fired “from the direction where the Crown Victoria was driving” but didn’t see the shooting. She said she was sure the shots were fired from the vehicle but didn’t see who was driving it.

No further description of the vehicle was given.

Police have made no arrests in connection with the incident.
