Waverly man, 25, charged in string of Opelika car burglaries

A 25-year-old man from Waverly, Ala. was arrested Wednesday in connection with Tuesday’s string of Opelika car burglaries, Opelika police announced in a press release.

Jamie Lee Knox faces four counts each of unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle and fourth-degree property theft. He is currently being held in the Lee County Jail, Opeilka Police Capt. Shane Healey stated this morning.

According to police, an investigation indicated that Knox was involved in several of the 15 car burglaries that occurred throughout Opelika.

Authorities said 13 of those 15 burglaries happened in close proximity of Old Columbus Road and a majority of the vehicles were left unlocked. The loose items left inside were stolen.

Officials continue to investigate the incidents, which they believe are related.

“If evidence is discovered linking Knox, or anyone else, to the crimes, charges could be sought by the victims,” Healey wrote in the release.
