Man charged after police find two children unsupervised in park

A 49-year-old man has been accused of leaving two children unsupervised for nearly four hours at the Lakebottom Park playground, according to a Columbus police report.

Robert Lee Jackson of Columbus was arrested in relation with the incident 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of 18th Avenue and Garrard Street. He faces two counts each of second-degree child cruelty and reckless conduct.

Jackson was booked into the Muscogee County Jail but was released Sunday after posting bonds totaling $15,000.

Officials said they were called to the park at 1520 18th Ave. Saturday after the boy and girl were left there unattended between 1:45 p.m and 5:30 p.m. Further information concerning the incident wasn’t immediately released.
