Cat shot with pellet gun near Jones Avenue residence
A woman who spent the weekend away from her Jones Avenue residence returned home early Sunday to find that her cat had been shot with a pellet gun multiple times, according to Columbus Police.
On Monday, she took the cat to the Northside Animal Hospital at 5360 Veterans Parkway, where a veterinarian found three pellets lodged inside of its body from the right side. The pellets weren’t immediately removed, authorities said in a report.
Officials were called to the hospital around 2:12 p.m. Monday to investigate the incident, which they described as animal cruelty.
The owner reported that her pet was not injured when she last saw it around 7 p.m. Friday but noticed that “something was wrong” with it when she returned to her home in the 2600 block of Jones Avenue around 6 a.m. Sunday.
Officials believe the incident happened in the area of the woman’s residence but haven’t identified any possible suspects. No witnesses have come forward.
