Shot fired during Brito’s Market armed robbery

Columbus police are investigating the Wednesday morning armed robbery at Brito’s Market in which one shot was fired.

The 9:14 a.m. incident, which didn’t result in any serious injuries, was still in progress when authorities were called to the scene at 2035 South Lumpkin Road.

Officials spoke with business owner Alejandro Brito, who stated that he was in the back when he heard screaming coming from the front of the store. He said he went to check it out and noticed $2 lying on the floor near the front entrance.

The cashier told him that two men robbed the store and one of them shot at her but missed. The bullet ricocheted off of an object in the store and struck another employee, authorities said.

Police Sgt. Daniel Lyon said that individual was left with a minor injury but refused treatment.

Officials have yet to locate or identify any possible suspects, Lyon said Thursday afternoon.
