Opelika police investigate arson in Bay Court residence
Opelika police launched an arson investigation early Thursday after a fire ignited in a home in the 100 block of Bay Court.
Police Capt. Shane Healey said “someone intentionally set some clothes on fire on the couch of an empty residence” around 8:45 a.m. that day, but the Opelika Fire Department was able to extinguish the blaze before anyone was injured.
The incident, which was described as second-degree arson, is being investigated by both the fire and police department.
No arrests have been made in the case.
