A 16-year-old boy was nabbed in a stolen Honda this afternoon after Columbus police attempted to stop the vehicle speeding through the Wesley Heights neighborhood.

The teen was taken into custody after crashing the car in the 6000 block of Cordova Road. He faces a felony charge of possessing a stolen vehicle.

Cpl. Dean Spata was patrolling the area after a burglary when he spotted the Honda traveling an estimated 70 mph in the Luna Drive area. A chase ensued after Spata tried to stopped the vehicle, said Police Sgt. M.L. Peyton.

After more than a mile, the driver of the Honda crashed at Blueridge Drive and Cordova Road. The car struck a mailbox, continued through a yard and struck a parked Nissan Altima. The impact spun the Nissan around before the stolen car stopped inches from the bedroom window.

“We were looking for suspects from a previous burglary when this vehicle came by,” the sergeant said. “It doesn’t appear to be related to the other burglaries at the time.”

No one was injured in the crash. The Nissan and the Honda were both damaged along with the destroyed mailbox.

A check of the Honda revealed that it was stolen from the Dorsey Drive area.
