Girl, 14, struck by vehicle in hit-and-run wreck on Flat Rock Road

A 14-year-old girl was on the sidewalk Sunday night on Flat Rock Road when she was struck by a pickup truck that later fled the scene, according to a Columbus police report.

She is currently in critical condition at Midtown Medical Center, Columbus Regional spokeswoman Jessica Word said this afternoon.

Authorities said they arrived on the scene minutes after the 9:20 p.m. wreck.

They spoke with a male witness on the scene who reported seeing the victim walk south in the 6300 block of Flat Rock Road as the crimson pick-up truck stopped at the intersection of Beaver Run Road and Kitten Lake Drive.

The truck reportedly traveled south through the intersection and toward Milgen Road, straddling the lanes of travel. The unidentified driver then swerved onto the walkway and hit the teenage girl before fleeing the scene, the witness told officials.

Police said they have yet to determine what caused the mid-sized vehicle, which as a rear-tinted window and white tag, to leave the roadway.
