Inmate flees from work detail in Opelika, Ala.

An inmate fled from a work detail on Monday at the Opelika Police Department, authorities said Tuesday.

Edwin Dee Dennis, 43, of Valley was working as a trustee when he fled in a white Chevrolet Lumina at 12:30 p.m. Authorities believe that Dennis is no longer wearing his orange jumpsuit and is possibly wearing blue pants and a white t-shirt.

Dennis is described as 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighing about 195 pounds.

Warrants have been issued charging Dennis with escape, second degree. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Opelika Police Department Investigative Services at 334-705-5220 or the Secret Hotline at 334-745-8665.
