Police: Three spark car fire at Columbus Towing & Recovery

Columbus police are trying to identify and locate the three individuals seen setting fire to a 1996 Nissan Maxima early Thursday at Columbus Towing & Recovery.

In the police report, there was no mention of anyone being injured during the incident, which happened around 1:35 a.m.

Officials said they were called in to the investigate the arson at 318 10th Ave., where they viewed a surveillance video that showed three people climbing over the fence to the east of the building. The group approached a 1996 Nissan Maxima and ignited the rear end of the vehicle, authorities said.

“As two of the unknown suspects fled away from the vehicle, one of the unknown suspects ran around and threw something at the Nissan Maxima,” police stated in the report. “The Nissan Maxima shortly after became fully engulfed in flames.”

A detailed description of the offenders wasn’t provided.

The incident, which was described as second-degree arson, was turned over to the Columbus Police Department Auto Theft Division for further investigation.
