Phenix City man identified in one-vehicle crash on Lee Road 240

A one-vehicle crash on Lee Road 240 left a 24-year-old man dead after his SUV went out of control and overturned in Smiths Station, Lee County authorities said.

The victim was identified by Alabama Law Enforcement as Dakota Timothy Roberts of Phenix City. Lee County Coroner Bill Harris did not return a call seeking a cause of death.

State Troopers said Roberts was driving a 2000 Ford Explorer at 2:05 p.m. CST when it left the roadway and overturned. Roberts, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was hurled from the vehicle.

The accident occurred near the waste disposal station.

Troopers were assisted by the sheriff’s deputies at the scene of the crash, Sheriff Jay Jones said.
