Pedestrian struck by train and killed in Auburn

A pedestrian was struck by a westbound CSX train and killed early Saturday near the North College Street railroad crossing, the Auburn, Ala., Police Division said.

The 19-year-old man’s name wasn’t released, although immediate family has been notified. He was pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m. CST by Lee County Deputy Coroner Gene Manning, almost an hour after authorities were called at 12:25 a.m. to a man lying between the tracks.

His body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for a postmortem exam to determine the cause of death.

The death remains under investigation as an accident by Auburn Police, the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
