Hearing continued for suspect in home invasion where intruder was stabbed

Nearly seven months following the Whippoorwill Lane home invasion that left one suspect with a stab wound, police have arrested the third suspect linked to the Sept. 12 incident.

Nicholas DeShawn Parker, 23, of Columbus was apprehended at 1 a.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Whippoorwill Lane, the same block where police say the 1:30 p.m. home invasion took place. His arrest follows that of his alleged accomplices Alex Ramon Bales-Davis, 22, and Ceuion Marque English, 19, both of Columbus.

Parker was scheduled appear in Columbus Recorder’s Court 2 p.m. Monday to face one count each of first-degree home invasion, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. But because the detective presenting the case wasn’t available at the time, Judge Mary Buckner continued the case until 2 p.m. Friday.

Authorities said they were called to the scene on Sept. 12 and spoke with the 21-year-old male resident who came face-to-face with two of the three suspects. Two of the men allegedly forced their way into his home by holding him at gunpoint.

Armed with a knife, the victim stabbed one of the intruders in self-defense minutes before the men fled the scene in a 2003 Monte Carlo cab with a Georgia tag, police said. At the time, officials only had knowledge about two people leaving the scene in that vehicle.

Officials were continuing their investigation when they received a call from the Columbus Midtown Medical Center concerning a man who matched the description of one of the home invaders. When police arrived at the hospital, they spotted the Monte Carlo cab in the parking lot.

The wounded man, who was identified as Bales-Davis, was taken into custody at the hospital as a suspect in the home invasion. Police said they showed the victim an image of Bales-Davis, and he labeled him as one of the intruders.

The suspect was then transported to the Public Safety Center at 510 10th St., where he was arrested later that day around 8 p.m.

On Sept. 14, Bales-Davis pleaded not guilty in Columbus Recorder’s Court to first-degree home invasion. Ceuion Marque English, who identified himself as Bales-Davis’ cousin, appeared at the hearing to testify about the case but ended up revealing information that led to him being arrested at the stand for the same incident.

He told Judge Michael Cielinski, who was presiding at the time, there were actually three people who left the scene in that Monte Carlo cab. When Cielinski asked how he knew that piece of information, he stated in open court that he was the third person in the vehicle.

English denied any involvement in the home invasion, but that didn’t stop officers from surrounding and handcuffing him during the court hearing. Officials later obtained a warrant to charge him with first-degree home invasion, which he pleaded not guilty to later that week in Columbus Recorder’s Court.

Police said English told detectives that Parker, who he identified as Bales-Davis’ friend, was the second intruder to invade the Whippoorwill Lane home.
