Police: East Point woman tries to strike clerk with car at Columbus food mart
Columbus police said they arrested on Wednesday afternoon the 44-year-old woman who attempted to strike a store clerk with a car in late January at the Corner Cupboard Food Mart on Victory Drive.
Lawanda Chisholm of East Point, Ga. was arrested at the Union City Jail at 12 p.m. on an aggravated assault charge stemming from the Jan. 24 incident that resulted in no injures. She was booked into the Muscogee County Jail for 9 a.m. Friday preliminary hearing in Columbus Recorder’s Court.
Police said they were called to 3475 Victory Drive on Jan. 24 around 2:05 p.m. after a black woman (later identified as Chisholm) attempted to run over a clerk with her Kia Optima vehicle. The victim told responding officers that he had to jump out of the way to avoid getting struck by the vehicle.
A witness confirmed the clerk’s account of the incident, authorities noted in the police report. The motive behind the attack is unclear.
