Chihuahua reported stolen from Columbus Animal Control
Authorities said they are searching for a man who was seen stealing a Chihuahua Thursday afternoon from the Columbus Animal Control at 4910 Milgen Road.
A Columbus police officer was called to the government officer around 5 p.m. to investigate the incident, which occurred earlier that day at 3:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, the official spoke with a witness who gave the possible name of a man who she said walked around in a restricted area of the business the day before looking at dogs. He was accompanied by a woman, she added.
He left the business without incident when employees caught him, the witness reported.
The next day around 3:30 p.m., the man allegedly walked into the Columbus Animal Control again. He signed in at the front desk and provided a telephone number before walking back to the back of the business, according to the police report.
He was seen on surveillance video taking the black and tan Chihuahua and walking out of the front door. When police attempted to call the man using the phone number he provided, an unidentified woman answered the phone.
At the time the report was made, the responding officer had not collected the surveillance video but planned to log it into property and evidence once it became available.
