Officials search for wanted woman after high-speed chase

Local law enforcement officials were on the scene in Phenix City Tuesday morning searching for a woman with outstanding warrants they say took them on a high-speed chase that started in Columbus.

Ieshia Lockett is wanted on three felony counts of first-degree theft of property through the Phenix City Police Department and additional warrants through the Columbus Police Department.

Lt. Darrell Lassiter with the PCPD said a unit from CPD tried to perform a traffic stop on a stolen 2003 black Mercedes Benz when the driver fled after the officer approached.

Police chased Lockett into Phenix City, where CPD and PCPD and officials with the Russell County Sheriff’s Department looked for her around 15th Street and Eighth Avenue.

The vehicle was backed into a small lot at 1501 Eighth Ave. where a woman was handcuffed and sitting on a nearby curb, but Phenix City police said she may have been a passenger in the vehicle. A young child appeared to be with the woman in custody.

By 1:24 p.m., authorities had ended the active search for Lockett and released the woman detained on the scene. Officials said they do not believe that apparent passenger was involved in the theft.

There were no reported injures.
