Two more suspects charged in Peachtree Mall shooting
Two more suspects have been charged in connection with the March 26 shooting at Peachtree Mall, Columbus police said on Thursday.
Tekoa Chantrell Young, 23, and Terell Raquez McFarland, 25, face a murder charge more than two months after the shooting that left Anthony Meredith dead. Young was taken into custody on Wednesday on a murder charge and held at the Muscogee County Detention Center. A hearing is set for 9 a.m. Friday in Columbus Recorder’s Court.
McFarland is not yet in custody but police said he is considered armed and dangerous.
With the April 18 arrest of Xzavaien Jones, police now have three suspects identified in the shooting. Jones, 18, surrendered to authorities on a murder charge about three weeks after the shooting at 3131 Manchester Expressway.
Meredith, 24, was at the mall shopping for Easter clothes for his 3-year-old daughter when he was gunned down. He was found on the ground at the southwest entrance of the mall suffering from at least eight gunshot wounds. He was taken to Midtown Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
During a court hearing for Jones, police identified the suspect as the gunman in the gang-related shooting. Police believe Meredith was killed for revenge in the death of Christopher Twitty, who was fatally shot on Nov. 21 at his Wickam Drive home. Twitty was a member of the OG Crip gang who brought Jones into the group.
No suspect has been charged in Twitty’s death. Police noted that Meredith wasn’t identified as a gang member but there was some animosity between Meredith and Jones.
Police said no information was available late Thursday to indicate whether Young and McFarland were part of a gang.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of McFarland should contact Sgt. Ken Hudson at 706-225-4257 or the Robbery/Homicide division at 706-653-3400.
