Police warn public about rising circulation of fake $100 bills

The Columbus Police Department's Financial Crimes Unit took to Facebook Wednesday to warn the public about money meant as a movie prop being used to make legitimate purchases.

Marked "for motion picture use only,” the $100 bills are circulating more than normal, according to police.

“This has occurred at several businesses throughout town as well as private party sales for items,” authorities stated in the post. “Mere possession of these notes is not a crime, but passing them in order to make a purchase is a crime.”
