Man accused of assault on West Point police officer surrenders

A man accused of assaulting a West Point police officer surrendered without incident to authorities on Monday .

Tabious Heard also faces one count each of obstruction or hindering a law enforcement officer in connection with a April 28 incident . Heard was taken to the Troup County Jail.

Officers were called to the West Point Housing Authority to check on a domestic dispute around 1 a.m. In the 1200 block of East 13th Street, responding officer Sgt. Kevin Bauer was repeatedly assaulted with a brick while seated in his patrol vehicle.

Bauer was taken to George H. Lanier Hospital where he was treated for injuries and later released.
