Two-car collision near Crawford, Ala., kills Opelika man
A 40-year-old Opelika, Ala., man was killed late Friday after the car he was driving collided with another on U.S. 80, 3 miles west of Crawford, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said.
Monta Demonn Hawkins was pronounced dead of blunt-force trauma at 3 a.m. Saturday at the scene of the crash, said Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr.
Troopers said Hawkins was driving a 1997 Honda Accord when the vehicle collided with a 2012 Toyota Camry at 11:50 p.m. at the 198-mile marker. He was not wearing a seat belt.
A preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol may have been a factor in the collision, troopers said.
The crash remains under investigation by the state troopers.
