Thunder showers knock out power in Historic District, Victory Drive
Almost all customers are back up after 3,200 people lost power Wednesday when thunder showers rolled through Columbus.
Some of the affected customers included residents in the downtown Historic District and along Victory Drive. The showers also left some intersections along major roadways without traffic signals.
Robert Watkins of Georgia Power said three different substations and four breakers were out in the area. He said additional resources were called in to help restore power.
"Some very talented and professional people figured out how to make it happen," Watkins said. "They came out of their homes, studied the situation and put a plan together as to how to get it done. We were just fortunate that there were not so many trees that we couldn't do it. It's complicated, but our people figured it out."
Only a handful of customers remained without power late Wednesday.
