Auburn man accused of stealing suitcase with $1,500 in jewelry, clothes

An Auburn cyclist was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly stole a suitcase from Hemlock Drive filled with jewelry and clothes worth more than $1,500, according to a news release from the Auburn Police Department.

Henry L. Ogletree, 49, faces one count of second-degree theft of property stemming from the incident. He was transported to the Lee County Jail, where he’ll be eligible for a $3,000 bond.

Authorities said they responded to the 100 block of Hemlock Drive after it was reported that a suitcase containing more than $1,500 worth of jewelry and clothing was stolen from an area adjacent to the victim’s vehicle. A black man on a bicycle was seen leaving Hemlock Drive with her suitcase, according to the release.

Officials said they found Ogletree near the scene. He was identified as the thief and taken into custody.
