Columbus man pleads not guilty to performing sexual act with 5-year-old

A 24-year-old man accused of performing a sex act with a 5-year-old in a Columbus residence near Forrest and Floyd roads between late July and early August waived his preliminary hearing.

Michael Diaz of Columbus pleaded not guilty Friday morning in Recorder’s Court to one count of aggravated child molestation. He was ordered held in the Muscogee County Jail without bond and his case was bound over to Superior Court.

An officer was called Monday to a home near Forrest and Floyd roads on a reported molestation accusation. Diaz allegedly engaged in oral sex with the child between July 29 and Aug. 5, according to police reports.

He was taken into custody around 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Rainbow Foods on Buena Vista Road, where he’s employed.
