Man, woman wounded in apartment shooting in Auburn

A shooting that occurred early Sunday at an unspecified Auburn apartment on North Gay Street left a 21-year-old woman and 23-year-old man wounded, according to a news release from the Auburn Police Department.

The 21-year-old victim was transported to East Alabama Medical Center, where she was treated and released. The other victim is still in critical condition after undergoing surgery for several gunshot wounds at Columbus Regional Medical Center, authorities said this afternoon.

Police were called to the 800 block of North Gay Street around 2:43 a.m. Sunday after gunshots were heard in the area. When they arrived on the scene, they found two individuals with gunshot wounds.

They later learned that one or more people fired shots at several others in an apartment and damaged two apartment units. Officials said the shooting wasn’t random but have yet to elaborate further.
