Britt David Magnet Academy’s new principal has been selected — and she is familiar with the Muscogee County School District.
Allen Elementary School principal Karen Garner will replace the retiring Clara Davis, effective July 1, MCSD announced Wednesday evening. Davis has been Britt David’s principal for five years.
“The HR Department will begin advertising the Allen Elementary position immediately,” MCSD communications director Valerie Fuller said in the news release. “There are no further details to share nor questions that may be answered at this time.”
The news release didn’t provide background information about Garner, and the Ledger-Enquirer hasn’t reached her for comment. According to her Facebook page, she graduated from Glenwood School in 1975 and earned a specialist’s degree in elementary education from Jacksonville State University.
The Ledger-Enquirer asked MCSD superintendent David Lewis why he appointed her. He replied in an email Wednesday night, “Mrs. Garner is a veteran educator and administrator with a proven track record of success, professionalism and high expectations for students and staff alike. In addition, I believe Mrs. Garner will effectively balance respect for the culture and traditions of the Britt David community with the challenge for its continued improvement.”
The superintendent isn’t required to ask the Muscogee County School Board to approve this personnel move because it is a transfer.
