Tuskegee University has a new provost but he is not a new face to those at the school.

Tejinder S. Sara, a faculty member and administrator at Tuskegee for more than 43 years who retired in 2016, has been appointed as the school’s chief academic officer.

A report on the school’s website says that in his new role Sara will oversee all academic colleges and schools, graduate studies and research, the library, distance education, research and sponsored programs, the registrar and chapel. He will represent the university when the president is unavailable.

After graduating from California State University with undergraduate degrees in business and economics, he worked with Mattel Inc. in the inventory management division. He joined the Tuskegee faculty while completing his Ph.D in economics at the University of Massachusetts.

He was dean of the college of business from 2007 until he retired in 2016.

In the article, interim president Charlotte P. Morris said Sara is “beloved and well respected by his colleagues, students and alumni alike.”
